On this page

This page explains the words you meet in Oil Voyage. The terms are grouped by topic and sorted from A to Z inside each group. Every entry links to the page that explains it in full.

Basics

  • Bot — @OilVoyageBot, the game's bot in Telegram. It opens the game, sends you messages if you allow them, and can take withdrawal requests. See Notifications and the bot.
  • Captain — a player. Every player in Oil Voyage is a captain.
  • Demo data — the made-up numbers shown during the guide tour. Nothing in the tour is spent or saved.
  • Flag — the country you sail for. It decides the crude grade you ship and your routes, and you can change it in Profile. See Flags and countries.
  • Guide — this help center. Do not confuse it with the guide tour.
  • Guide tour — the short tour of the app's tabs that you are offered after the registration. You can take it again from Profile. See Quick start.
  • Mini App — the game itself. It opens inside Telegram and does not work in a normal browser. See Quick start.
  • Nickname and avatar — the name and picture other captains see instead of your Telegram name and photo. See Profile.
  • Registration — the four welcome steps a new player finishes in the Mini App: language, three confirmations, flag and the tour offer. An invited friend counts only after it. See Quick start.

Voyages

  • Awaiting fix — the tanker has arrived, but a daily fix the payout needs is not recorded yet. The voyage is paid as soon as the fix arrives. See Prices and daily fixes.
  • Base rate — the fixed part of the payout: the route's daily rate for every day at sea. It is 1% a day on the shortest routes and grows with the route length up to 1.6% a day. The rate is fixed at the voyage's first share. See The payout.
  • Benchmark — the reference oil price a destination port is priced with: Brent, Dubai or WTI. The payout follows the benchmark of the destination. See Prices and daily fixes.
  • Berth — a place at the destination port where a tanker unloads. Each destination port has a fixed number of berths, 3 now. See The voyage cycle.
  • Cancellation fee — the part of a share the game keeps when you cancel it while the tanker is loading: 20%. See Cancelling a share.
  • Cargo — the oil on board a tanker: the shares of all captains added up, in 🛢️.
  • Daily fix — the price of an oil benchmark recorded once a day, from 00:00 UTC. Voyages are paid on daily fixes, never on the live line of the map. See Prices and daily fixes.
  • Destination — the port where a voyage ends and the tanker unloads.
  • Expected payout — what a share would pay with the base rate only, before the market move. It is an estimate, not a promise. See Buying a share.
  • Free voyage — one share of 1 🛢️ that the game pays for a new player, while it offers one. It cannot be cancelled. See Quick start.
  • Grade — a type of crude oil, such as WTI, Urals or Basrah Medium. Your flag decides your grade. See Flags and countries.
  • In port — an empty tanker waiting at its loading port for the first share. No timer runs yet.
  • Live price — the small moving line on the map. It is decoration only and never used for a payout. See Prices and daily fixes.
  • Loading — the time after the first share when other shares can still be added. It lasts 6 hours, or less if the tanker fills up. See The voyage cycle.
  • Loading port — the port where a voyage starts.
  • Market move (market delta) — the part of the payout that comes from the change of the destination benchmark between the departure day and the arrival day. It can be positive or negative. See The payout.
  • My positions — the list of your shares in the Routes tab, active and settled. See Routes and positions.
  • Parked — a tanker that arrived on a Saturday or Sunday (UTC). It waits at the port and unloads from Monday. See Weekends.
  • Payout — what you receive when a voyage settles: your share, plus the base rate, plus the market move. See The payout.
  • Payout floor — the least a share can pay back: 90% of what you put in. See The payout.
  • Queue (in queue) — a tanker waiting for a free berth at the destination. Nobody waits longer than 12 hours. See The voyage cycle.
  • Route — the sea lane from a loading port to a destination, with a fixed number of sailing days. See Routes and positions.
  • Sailing — the tanker is at sea on its route.
  • Settled — the voyage is closed and every share on it is paid.
  • Share — your part of a tanker's cargo on one voyage, bought with wBarrel. It is not a share of a company. See Buying a share.
  • Tanker — an oil tanker ship. Every tanker has a name, such as Baltic Dawn.
  • Tanker capacity — the most cargo one tanker can carry: 5,000 🛢️ right now.
  • Unloading — the tanker has a berth and is unloading. It takes 6 hours, then the voyage is paid.
  • Voyage — one trip of a tanker from the loading port to the destination. Voyages last from 3 days to 36 days. See The voyage cycle.
  • Weekend rule — from Saturday 00:00 to Monday 00:00 UTC, exchanges are closed: prices stay at Friday's fix, arriving tankers park, and new withdrawal requests are not accepted. See Weekends.
  • World level — progress shared by all players, on two tracks: Population (the number of captains) and Volume (the cargo loaded). New levels open tankers, routes and flags and raise the tanker capacity for everyone. See World progress.
